[comp.windows.x] The X source tree

fridman@cpsc.ucalgary.ca (Robert Fridman) (06/29/90)

configuration: sun4, X11R4 installed.

This is a question about the "RIGHT" way to do things:

When compiling X programs, should the X source tree be around and
used in the compilation? In other words, should the TOP variable be used?

If the tree should be used, then why should we bother installing the
libraries and includes somewhere else like /usr/local and /usr/include/X11???
Or even have links in those places to where they really are?

Personally I see no real need in having the X tree online since everything
that I need to compile and link with is in the proper places in the system.

Please mail to me directly and I'll summarize.
Thanks in advance...

	Robert.
