I would like suggestions on books and/or articles which would be appropriate for a beginner in X-windows, X-lib and X-toolkit. There are several machines appearing in our building with X-windows, and in the future, we may get X-windows for our Sun's (or they will give it to us!) Please e-mail suggestions, if there are sufficient answers, I will post a summary. I have a friend who is just hankering to learn X. I told him that I'd ask the people on this group what suggestions they had for learning how to do it, and so here I am. What's the best way to get somebody started on X? He's got a fairly good background in C. Names of books are fine, as are on-line documentation, suggestions on code samples, etc... Please send to me at portnoy@athena.mit.edu as this group gets enough traffic as is. If there is interest I'll post a summary. Stephen Peters
