[comp.windows.x] ld.so: libXmu.so.4.0: not found

zador-anthony@CS.YALE.EDU (anthony zador) (07/05/90)

Can anyone help me? I'm sorry if it's obvious. I am trying to
install X11. I didnt build it locally; i just copied the files
from another machine somewhere.

I keep getting this error when trying to init X11-R4
 ld.so: libXmu.so.4.0: not found

Our setup is as follows. We have a 330 w/1 GB disk and a
sparc 1 w/just a little local disk. This local disk includes
/usr/lib, /usr/include and /usr/bin.

I set up symbolic links on both machines from /usr/lib/X11 to /bigdisk1/X11R4/lib
and likewise w/bin and include:
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root           16 Jul  4 20:17 /usr/lib/X11 -> /bigdisk1/X11R4/lib/

That left only the libX files:
/usr/lib/libX11.a@ /usr/lib/libXaw.so.4.0@ /usr/lib/libXmu.a@ /usr/lib/libXt.sa.4.0@
/usr/lib/libX11.so.4.2@ /usr/lib/libXdmcp.a@ /usr/lib/libXmu.sa.4.0@ /usr/lib/libXt.so.4.0@
/usr/lib/libXau.a@ /usr/lib/libXext.a@ /usr/lib/libXmu.so.4.0@
/usr/lib/libXaw.a@ /usr/lib/libXinput.a@ /usr/lib/libXt.a@

For these i set up symbolic links to /bigdisk1/X11/libfiles.

So the paradox is that it works fine on the 330 but not on the Sparc 1. I dont think
it's due to any hardware incompatibility since the machine i took the binaries
from is an identically configured Sparc 1.

Can anyone explain why i get
 ld.so: libXmu.so.4.0: not found

and what i can do about it?

Thanks,
Tony Zador

PS Please respond by email, since i dont read X11 regularly.

Thanks

The problem is the ld.so cache. You must run "ldconfig" after
installing new libraries. The actual answer to this is on the
monthy posting that gives all the answers to the most frequently
asked questions.
