[comp.windows.x] CGM display program for X

jsm@ss01.pppl.gov@ccc.nmfecc.gov (John Scott McCauley Jr.) (06/28/90)

Is there a Computer Graphics Metafile display program for X? I tried looking
on expo, but I might have missed it.

        Thanks,

The Pittsburgh Supercomputer Centre has a program called gplot which
translates cgm files to many output formats and/or window systems
including PostScript, Tek4xxx, SunView, SGI Iris GL, X, etc ...
It runs under UNIX and VMS. Sources are available from calpe.psc.edu
(128.182.66.148). Hopefully, someone else can help you retrieve a
copy.

I was wondering if there is a way to use a different rgb.dir. The
problem is we are running
R3 on some Vaxstations, and R4 on Suns. I would like to use a new
rgb.dir AFTER X has already
been started (Since our system uses xdm). Is there a way to reinstall a
new rgb file after X
has already started ?

  Thanks for the info,

To startup the X Server with a different rgb.dir, indicate a
-co option to the server :

	xinit -- $R4/bin/X11/Xsun -co $R4/lib/X11/rgb

I would like to know myself if this is possible. From all of
my own search, I did not find a way to change the rgb once the
server is running. Can someone prove me wrong?

NCAR is now has an X previewer. They have two programs
that do metafiles on X. They are "idt" and "ctrans",
or "ftrans". There may be come differences between
NCAR and standard metafiles though. NCAR Graphics on
X is a lot faster than over 9600 Baud lines, by the way.
