[comp.windows.x] Help needed with X10->X11 Create Window differences

oscar@jpl-devvax.JPL.NASA.GOV (Oscar DeMartino) (07/06/90)

I need help on a conversion of X10 to X11. This is not a general
conversion problem it is very specific. I am using Visual Engineering's
(VE) GKS package to generate a plot. The creation and instantiation of the
window is done differently for X10 than for X11. When the window
comes up in X10 it allows the user to position and resize it, interactively using the mouse, before
it is actually created, (VE uses the XCreate call). Under X11
when the window comes up the user has no control of position or
size, except through resources int the .Xdefaults file, (VE uses the XCreateSimpleWindow
call here).

BTW - This does not seem to be tied to a window manager, I
have tried it with MWM, TWM, and without any manager and get the same
effects. I liked the way things worked under the X10 version, giving
the user more control.

- Is this capability no longer available with X11?

- Should VE be using a different X11 call, other than XCreateSimpleWindow?

- Is there some sort of resource I can set to achieve the desired results?

- Any other suggestions?
