[comp.windows.x] R4 libXaw.a with R3 server?

pbiron@weber.ucsd.edu (Paul Biron) (07/14/90)

Hi all,

We are running the X11R3 server on an HDS vs19 (ROM 2.0b)
and the X11R3 libraries on an HP 9000/800 (HP-UX 7.0).

I just got the libraries and clients from the R4 tape
(from uunet.uu.net) and tried to compile xman, xcalc,
etc. The libraries and clients compile OK, but most
of the clients (and Xaw example clients) don't run properly.
I compiled the libXaw.a without setting the -DSHAPE flag
since our server doesn't support that extension.

I'm getting (mostly) "Error: unable to realloc" messages
when starting up xman, xcalc, etc. [For xman, the error
occurs in MakeTopBox(), when creating the QUIT_BUTTON,
line 86 of buttons.c; I haven't bothered to track down
the exact locations of the error in the other clients].

Is there any hope of getting this to work in the environment
described above. If not, is there a version of xman
available for X11R3?

Thanx,
