Many people use for this the idraw file format which a printable postscript
file. It is a VERY nice metafile format, yet a little verbose... But the
postscript header is optional, so it's not bad.

I have done a "wd2id" converter converting xwd window dumps into this format
so that I can add legends to X windows dumps, and modify the colors for B&W
printing. rich@rice.edu mad "plot2ps" taking PLOT(1) input and producing
an idraw file. You get a lot of synergy out of this system, and you have a FREE
nice graphic editor, idraw!

(Idraw is part of the Interviews distrib on the X tapes)
