Is it more efficient (read: faster) to draw pixmaps onto the screen from within a font or with XCopyArea? Or, more specifically, what is the fastest way to blit one of many pixmaps onto the screen with the sample MIT server? I am about to embark on writing my second X-based video game. The first one (Arkanoid) suffered from performance problems because (I think) bitblitting the pixmaps was just taking too long. My second game (Solarian) is going to have even more activity and I expect performance to be a real problem. I suppose "write your own benchmark program" is a possible answer but I'm hoping someone has already. Barr3y Jaspan, bjaspan@athena.mit.edu Student Information Processing Board (SIPB)
