[comp.windows.x] Security without using xdm

gsh7w@astsun7.astro.Virginia.EDU (Greg S. Hennessy) (07/17/90)

We are using X11R4 patchlevel 12 on a system of Sun 3's and 4.0.3. We
have the problem that sometimes while one person is logged in on the
console, another user will accidently start a program that attempts to
write to the frame buffer. I have considered writing two set-uid
programs, one to do a chown on the frame buffers to the user, and one
to restore it back to root. However, I was wondering if anyone knew of
a more graceful solution. Since some users still prefer Sunview, using
xdm is not an option.

Perhaps per user authorizations can be added to R5?
