I come here not to praise X11R4 but to question. The question is best asked in the form of the following dramatization based on real life: From: satish@organ.cis.ohio-state.edu (Satish Nagarajan) Path: organ.cis.ohio-state.edu!satish Once not very long ago, there was a poor little X-programmer, who earnt his daily bread by writing brave little programs in X11R3. One dull and dreary day, the Count of the Castle summoned our brave programmer to his Castle (a modern day synonym is office) and thus spake "Go my loyal warrior (synonym for underpaid overworked grad student) and find out why this program which I (the count) wrote does not display line feeds when compiled and run with X11R4 which it used to in X11R3" further the Count said "fail me and you will wish you ... (gory details omitted), but if you succeed I shall bestow upon you much wealth and fame (well not quite)" This is the question on which the brave programmer's life depends: The Count is using athena widgets to display and highlight text in a viewport. When using X11R3 the same code showed linefeeds as an extra space at the end of the line, BUT with X11R4 the space at the end of the line, during highlighting, has disappeared. The "Good" Count would like to know: (a)If the Black Wizard from from the East coast has thus called up the dark powers and got rid of the crucial linefeeds (aka spaces at end of lines)? (b)If there are any good wizards with powerful magic who have over come this problem? Well, Thank You Ladies and Gentlemen, Fellow X programmers and Wizards for lending me your ears (eyes). A prompt reply from you can save a noble soul. Just how often do you get a chance to save a life? Make use of this opportunity of a lifetime, write to satish@cis.ohio-state.edu for further details, credit cards welcome. Thanks again you just might save my life, Think about it before you press the "n" key. -- Satish N. -=- I think therefore I am! TA DA
