Now, slow up a minute. The net is a free facility (at least, the majority
of we users pay nothing for it) which exists only through the VERY hard
work of a few volunteers - the caretakers, I guess - like Chuq von Rospach,
Gene Spaffors, et al. You can't run it all ways at once, so the guys
putting in the sweat have to decide what shape it'll be. You don't like
it? Well, I believe some of them will gladly bow to a successor.

> Who exactly is LAUREN ? Who elected this person to moderate/censor ANYTHING?

Lauren is an engineer who set about an experiment in communications called
STARGATE. He's another worker putting in a lot of voluntary time for the
sake of an interesting development. He figured that a news net SIMILAR to
Usenet could be operated that way, so as an EXPERIMENT he and his colleagues
are going to try it out.

No-one in a position of sufficient authority has decreed that the Usenet
must die (there is no such authority - it's a co-operative), least of all
Lauren. Frank Adrian's alarmist article has created that myth.

It's free; you get what you get.
