I'm running X11R4 on a Sun 386i under SunOS 4.0.3. I am having a couple of glitches having to do with logins. One is just an annoyance, the other is pretty serious. 1) When I am logged onto the machine using an NCD X terminal and running twm, if someone tries to log in on the console, they enter their username and password and get the message: "Logging into your Account." About 15 seconds later the login screen appears, prompting for a username. There are no error messages shown anywhere that I have seen. The second attempt to log in, however, works. This is not a problem of an accidental space (or other character) being typed in before the username such that the username is not recognized. 2) If I am logged in with the X terminal, as above, and log in with the console and run EITHER X or SunView, when I end the console windowing session, I never get the unix prompt back. I cannot get anything on the console to respond. When I look at the processes, there are not any running on the console. There is no getty(8) running for the console, and neither are logintool or login working. The only way I have been able to get the console back is to reboot. While the console craps-out the X terminal session still runs with no noticeable differences. This problem does not occur when another user logs into the console and uses SunView, however. It does occur when I am logged in as myself on one device and logged in as 'manager' (an account similar in secondary groups) to my own. So, I suspect that this problem has something to do with permissions. Perhaps I could be so bold as to say that it is something to do with group identification. Any suggestions?? Please e-mail responses to me.
