[comp.windows.x] XIO Fatal IO error 49

mike@cs.keele.ac.uk (Michael A. Green) (07/31/90)

Hi,
We have many Sun 3/50, 3/60's running X11R4 and twm.

	We also recently aquired InterViews.

Unfortunately the only reliable C++ we have is on a Microvax II
	running Ultrix 2.2

To save time we installed X11R4 on the Microvax, but have a few
	problems.

ALL of the clients in the X11R4 fail with a fatal error, eg

mc% setenv DISPLAY dopey:0.0
mc% cd /usr/bin/X11
mc% xlogo
XIO: fatal IO error 49 (Can't assign requested address) on X server "dopey:0.0"
after 19 requests (6 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
mc%

Where dopey is a Mono Sun 3/50 running X11R4/twm.
(xlogo runs fine on this Sun when the client is on either other Suns,
or a Sequent Symetry so the Display must be OK).

My Question: What is error 49, and how do I fix it?
I think it must be a problem in the X11 libraries, perhaps
we need to alter the configuration?

The libraries are compiled using gcc-1.37, as are the
		clients

	Any help appreciated.
