[comp.windows.x] xlock w/xdm & Xsun w/ sunview

csmoko@earth.nswc.navy.mil (Chuck Smoko - E41) (08/02/90)

I have a couple of questions about running Xservers.

1) xlock and xdm: Is there any way to run xlock on a server that
has its login provided by xdm? I can understand why xlock can
only lock the server on the machine that is running the
server. I would not like someone to either inadvertently or
maliciously lock my screen either. What I wondering was if there
was a way to allow only the machine that gave the xdm login to
lock the server and disallow all others. If that is not possible
can xlock be made so that it can lock any display that allows a
connection? It seems more dangerous, for me at least, not to
lock than to worry about others locking me out.

2) X with Sunview: Has anyone succeeded in running xinit from
within sunview while running with SUNOS 4.1? Whenever I do an
xinit from within sunview the server's mouse loses control of
the cursor. The cursor stays frozen, but the server still seems
to be running because I can bring up clients by starting them
from another terminal. The problem seems to be 4.1 because I
have this combination working with both SUNOS 3.5 and 4.0.3. I
have compiled the Xsun server with sunview support with 3.5, 4.0.3
and 4.1 and all yield the frozen cursor.

Please reply directly and I will post a summary(s).

	                         Thanks in advance,
        	                 Chuck Smoko
