The difference is the "trash" on CompuServe is kept in areas that you know
will contain trash, and not mixed in with the serious stuff. The technical
SIGs do have quite a bit of good stuff. Some are better than Usenet, some are
the same, and some are worse. CIS is not for everybody. People who are
involved with Unix and nothing else will probably not be interested. It is
oriented towards microcomputer owners, and it does a better job than
net.micro.* on Usenet. It also takes time to determine which SIGs are good and
which are a waste of time. For example, the MicroSoft SIG is a waste of time
because every time you ask a question the sysop sends back the "Its an OEM
product and we cant support it" form letter. I havent quite figured out if the
DRI SIG is any good. If I decide to sign up for GPS then it will be, but
otherwise no. Better support for CP/M is on the CP-MIG SIG.
