Problems with running X11R3 (ver 1.2) with CornerStone driver ------------------------------------------------------------ We are facing the following problem in running X11R3. If anyone has even the remotest idea what it could be due to, do PLEASE reply to me. I Configuration: * Micromachines i386 based mini. * Running Interactive UNIX. * To use X11R3 (version 1.2): * X11 is configures to run with Xcvc (driver for CornerStone display. (i.e., the Xconfig file has display specifications corresponding to CornerStone monitor). * We have TCP/IP installed as well as STREAMS, although we are not using X in network and hence do not need TCP/IP. * Of course, to support TCP/IP, we have the Ethernet card installed. II How X is invoked : X is invoked as by : $ xinit xterm -geom 60x23+0+0 -T "Console" -- Xcvc \ -logo -v 2>&x11debug.log ( the log file is used to record error messages for later display ). III Problems : * X goes into graphics mode. But the screen shows junk graphics data. * It takes input from keyboard and when we type 'exit' (without moving the mouse), it terminates X normally. ( When X is started from console, this graphics junk is shown in virtual terminal 3 ). IV Other observations : * When (using some other program) we alter the contents of the graphics buffer (segment 0xB000), and then run X again as before, it shows a different "junk" on the screen. * When configured to run with Hercules monitor (using Xhrc), everything works fine. * The cornerstone adapter card can put in two modes by changin a jumper on the card (one mode is apparently purely for alphanumeric use and the other for both ). Anyway, we tried both the modes, with the same result. Are we doing something basically wrong ? Is there anyone out there who has used CornerStone monitor under Interactive UNIX succesfully ? (Sometime ago some person had reported a problem with running X with VGA monitor under interactive. Has the problem been set right ?) If anyone can suggest something (intelligent guesses are welcome), please email to : ramakris@bloss.cs.vt.edu with a CC to : ramakrish@vtcc1.cc.vt.edu Thanx in anticipation. -- -- S.Ramakrishnan, CS Dept, McBryde Hall, VaTech, Blacksburg, Virg. 24061-0106 (email : ramakris@bloss.cs.vt.edu, ramakris@vtcc1.cc.vt.edu)
