Plese excuse this posting it it happened twice. The system was shutdown in the middle of my prior attempt. Message follows: I am looking for a tool and a paper that addresses the porting of Microsoft windows to X windows. The tool would take Microsoft Dialog files (.dlg) and (.rc) files and generate a UIL on X11 Motif. Under X windows, HP has a builder called UIMX. UIMX can read UIL, and generate C code. This would provide one method of implementing the portation. Another method would be to take the compiled MS (.RES) resource file, and generate UIL code or C code. Has anyone developed a tool, or investigated this problem? The application I have is a Microsoft version 2.1 (soon to be version 3.0) with 200+ dialog boxes. It is a Network Management application that Runs with HP Openview Windows. The port would be to X11 Motif with HP Openview under UNIX. Thanks for any help, Jim Brandt

The only thing (in production) that I can think of would be XVT. But XVT isn't a translater, you would have to port the MS-Windows code to XVT, then let XVT handle the MOTIF side. On the plus side, you would then (typically) have something that would also run on a Mac.

Hi, I'm trying to make a window a child of a form widget. Is there a Xlib or Xt call that will let you do this? I.e. I'm trying to display the contents of a window (created a priori) within the form widget of my appications. thanx, sanjay ________________________________________________________________________ Sanjay Manandhar sanjay@media-lab.media.mit.edu MIT Media Laboratory (617) 253-0312 20 Ames Street, E15-355 Cambridge, MA 02139 USA _________________________________________________________________________
