The idea for a net.sources.d has been discussed before, and turned down. We have a net.sources.bugs for discussion of problems with posted sources, and a net.wanted.source for people wanting repostings. What other kind of discussion can you think of which would generate enough traffic to warrant its own newsgroup? Furthermore, the general feeling has been that no group should be created as a subgroup of net.sources unless it contains information that should be archived forever at sites that archive net.sources. Therefore, net.sources.d is probably not a good name. For what do you think such a group is needed? -- Gene "6 months and counting" Spafford The Clouds Project, School of ICS, Georgia Tech, Atlanta GA 30332 CSNet: Spaf @ GATech ARPA: Spaf%GATech.CSNet @ CSNet-Relay.ARPA uucp: ...!{akgua,allegra,hplabs,ihnp4,linus,seismo,ulysses}!gatech!spaf

My immediate response was to mail back a message saying "please don't, because I don't want to archive the stuff". I then realized I could probably come up with a mechanism to avoid archiving net.sources.d by using the ! notation. Assuming it is easy to avoid archiving net.sources.d, how about renaming net.wanted.sources to net.sources.wanted? I removed net.sources from the Newsgroup: line because I hate seeing all the discussion that goes on in net.sources. I think net.sources.{d,wanted} would be swell. -- Hokey ..ihnp4!plus5!hokey 314-725-9492

There already is a group for discussing user-contributed software -- it's called "net.usoft", and gets virtually NO traffic right now. Seems to me it would be easy to put "Followup-to: net.usoft" on all sources postings, thus keeping discussions of the features of various posted software off net.sources. =Spencer -- =Spencer ({ihnp4,decvax}!utah-cs!thomas, thomas@utah-cs.ARPA) "A sharp tongue is the only edge tool that grows keener with constant use" - Washington Irving
