[comp.windows.x] TCP/IP and KEEPALIVE

pho@dde.dk (Peter Holm) (08/08/90)

I've been wondering why the TCP/IP KEEPALIVE option is not used
(at least as an option) in libX.a.

xdm is attempting to achieve the same functionality by using
the XSync call.

Why not use KEEPALIVE, at least with LANs ?

I have been using this option since R3, with great benefits : I
can turn off my X-terminal, turn it on again and get the XDM
greating.

Does the KEEPALIVE option create a noticeable net overhead ?
