I'm posting this for my brother who's having a problem with x-window's colormap, but doesn't have access to the net. I'm not familiar with x-windows, so I hope you'll pardon my ignorance and/or incorrect terminology. The problem is that if their CAD client (HP's ME10) is executed before other clients, it defines all 256 entries in the colormap so that subsequent clients cannot create the colors they want. ME10's choice of colors makes it impossible to read the other client's windows (white on white). ME10 has an option of using the existing color map, so if all the other clients are executed first, all windows end up with acceptable colors. ME10 only reassigns the unused colors. The question, then, is how does one predefine a colormap so that all clients are usable no matter in what order they are executed? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
