[comp.windows.x] Problem with xtrek

pling@isieng.UUCP (Paul Ling) (01/18/89)

Hello,

Has anybody experience these problems with the new version of xtrek?
(the one without the shared memory stuff)

1. If a user is playing against with a practice robot and a new
player joins in, the game terminates.
2. After multiplayer plays for more than 3 minutes, and a new
player joins in, the game terminates.

Basically the game terminates when a user dies, or join in.

Any way to debug it ?
Any way to fix it ?

Thanks in advance.

I tried to send this message to the address given in the README for
this latest (I hope) version of xtrek. The mailer does not know
'unix.eta.com' nor does it know 'eta.com' so I am posting my message
here.

Subject: getting xtrek up and running

Dan:

I hope that it is not too much difficulty for you to take a couple of
minutes and see if you can figure out what my problem is with making
xtrek run on my system.

Vitals: Sun386i, X11R4, xtrek 1.2

I have built the executables as directed in the READMEs. The only thing
that I changed is the destination directories. Instead of /usr/games/lib/xtrek
I use /usr/bin/X11/games/lib/xtrek. Permissions seem to be set correctly.
I restarted inetd as prescribed (even tried rebooting, to no avail).

One warning...I got three warnings during compilation having to do with
some constants (I believe...they were in ALL CAPS) being redefined.

Problem: when trying to run xtrek I get a "Connection refused" message
from the server. This occurs when trying to run xtrek from the console
of the server or from an X terminal.

Any suggestions?? Thanks for any insight. I am quite familiar with
this machine, but not that much of a network guru.

Can anyone out there help??

Peace,
