As system administrator of THE SOLUTION I would like to state our stand on the issue of Head-hunter postings to net.jobs. I am perfectly aware of Susan's postings to net.jobs. It is my opinion, and the opinion of THE SOLUTION, that Susan's contributions are both appropriate and in the spirit of Usenet in general. I will outline my points to substantiate this: 1) Net.jobs is FOR posting jobs. This is what she is doing. 2) Only job openings are posted. (No candidates seeking jobs). 3) Susan's fees are 100% client company paid. There are NO fees to the people responding to Sue's postings. She is basicaly providing a free service for the benefit of people on the net. She does not court client companies by using Usenet. I am hard-pressed to find rational for the opinion that providing job opprotunities for people on the net, free of cost, is in anyway taking advantage of Usenet or those people. And I am very tired of reading complaints from people regarding the extra traffic on the net, when in fact, their flames burden the net much more than the original postings. I also see much more useful substance in AA's net.jobs postings than in a good share of the trash that spools around the net everyday carrying personal attacks and idiotic content. John, Would you care to defend using the "free" news software and phone network for profit? I don't intend any malice here. I consulted for a small Unix time sharing service and couldn't justify it for myself. How do you see it? Tim Becker ...!{seismo, decvax, allegra}!rochester!ccice5!tim

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! THE SOLUTION isn't courting companies on the net?!?!? This is NOT TRUE! I posted a job listing in net.jobs, and received a phone call from THE SOLUTION! Now, I really don't think that the caller wanted more information on the job. The caller, ALSO had the audacity to use the home telephone number of the person whose ad it was. (It was on the answering machine when I got home). I see no problem with head hunters on the net (freedom of the press, etc.) BUT I DO see a problem when falsehoods are told regarding their conduct. I also didn't appreciate the phone call. If I wanted to go through a head hunter, there are plenty in the Boston Area to deal with, I don't need them calling me on the phone. Mikki Barry

I > > ... (more of didn't like call) .. I have had this nagging feeling all through this debate. I didn't see any difference between a HH and any other company posting. I did see some benefit from HH's and *DO NOT* tolerate censorship well. But still I felt that something was wrong here... I think I now know what it is. A HH has two products. They sell jobs to applicants and sell applicants to employers. This is what they do as a commercial enterprize. This is what makes them different from a person or employer posting. They are directly advertizing their product. An employer or job seeker (Hello seekers!) is searching to fill their own need for something other than a product. -- E.
