[comp.windows.x] Xrooms

brett@solar.card.inpu.oz.au (Brett Sealey) (08/20/90)

I was wondering whether anyone out there is using Xrooms. Why, I hear you
ask, well I've installed it here (details later) and it doesn't seem to be
working properly. I like the concept and would like to see the program
working to it's potential.

(details here)
Sun 4 SPARC running SunOS 4.0.3 and with X11 R4 and using twm.
xrooms version 1.02.00

Problems
	- Seems to prevent movement of windows vertically, even when not
bolted etc... You can move them in any other direction!

	- When it remembers a windows position it doesn't get it right! It
places it exactly the height of the title bar lower than it was
	before.

Questions
	- Are there any patches around? Or for that matter is there a more
up to date version of Xrooms available?

	- Are there any other equivalent programs around?

Any help/comments appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm using basically the same setup (Sparc though mwm not twm) and tried using
xrooms for about 1/2 a day until the window positioning problem just became
too iritating. As you say it couldn't seem to decide whether the top
left corner
of the window was the top left of the main area or the title bar. However I
get the same problem repositioning windows with Epoch so I don't think that
is necessarily an xrooms problem.

xrooms looked a nice idea .... but didn't really work.
