[comp.windows.x] ld.so

merworth@cs.utexas.edu (Boyd Merworth) (08/24/90)

I'm getting the "ld.so: libXaw.so.4: not found" error messages and have
tried several solutions to it that have been posted here and am now
getting this when initially starting xinit. The OS is Sun 4.0.3 and
X11R4. If I set "LD_LIBRARY_PATH /lusr/lib/X11", then the clients
stop complaining. I've tried this from another host by running xterm,
xcalc, and xbiff on the Sun and displaying it on my HP display. But,
setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not correct the problem for xinit.

I define XFILESEARCHPATHDEFAULT as:

XFILESEARCHPATHDEFAULT "/lusr/lib/X11/%L/%T/%N%S:/lusr/lib/X11%l/%T/%N%S :/lusr/lib/X11/%T/%N%S"

I've used "ldconfig /lusr/lib/X11" to add the directory of shared
libraries on the Sun to the /etc/ld.so.cache file. A "strings" on the
cache file reveals:

	0/lusr/lib/X11
	oldX
	/lusr/lib/X11/libX11.so.4.2
	/lusr/lib/X11/libXt.so.4.0
	/lusr/lib/X11/libXmu.so.4.0
	/lusr/lib/X11/libXaw.so.4.0
	/lusr/lib/X11/libXmu.so.4
	/lusr/lib/X11/libXaw.so.4
	/lusr/lib/X11/liboldX.so.4.0
	/usr/lib
	pixrect
	suntool
	sunwindow
	/usr/lib/libpixrect.so.2.4
	/usr/lib/libc.so.0.14.1
	/usr/lib/libkvm.so.0.3
	/usr/lib/libsuntool.so.0.40
	/usr/lib/libsunwindow.so.0.40
	/usr/5lib
	/usr/5lib/libc.so.1.12
	/usr/lib/fsoft
	/usr/lib/f68881
	/usr/lib/ffpa
	/usr/lib/fswitch

I'm open to any new suggestions to try.
