You'd think if we wanted people to use and abide by standards (e.g. Posix and ANSI C) we would print the standards in newspapers and magazines and generally shout them from the housetops. But at least in this country we believe in supporting the standards effort with revenues derived from charging for copies of the standards. Hence it's a lot of work to even learn that a standard exists, and then you have to figure out what its name is and who publishes it and where they are and how much money you have to send to get a copy of it. In line with this it seems to me that what OSF is doing with Motif is entirely reasonable. But then we have the RFCs as standards, which are readily available by anonymous FTP at no charge.
