Well, the call for discussion for the newsgroup comp.windows.open-look passed without incident. Many people indicated that they were in favor of it (mostly via email), and the suggested name was comp.windows.open-look, as opposed to the original proposal, comp.windows.openlook. For those that were interested, here is your chance to vote! NAME: comp.windows.open-look CHARTER: Discussion of topics related to the Open Look User Graphical User Interface, including but not limited to, toolkits, UI Specifications, suggestions, help, etc. MODERATION STATUS: unmoderated HOW TO VOTE: Mail votes to any of the following addresses: grp@unify ...!uunet!unify!grp ...!csusac!unify!grp ...!pyramid!unify!grp Include "comp.benchmarks" in the subject and a clear indication of your vote, such as "yes" to indicate approval, or "no" to indicate disapproval, in either the subject or body of your message. VOTE CONFIRMATION: I will post a mass acknowledgement at the end of the voting period. VOTING PERIOD: 21 days from posting of this Call for Votes. Following is the original Call for Discussion This is a proposal and call for discussion for a new group addressing the Open Look User Interface. Tentatively named comp.windows.openlook, the group will be for the discussion of topics relating to the Open Look Graphical User interface, including toolkit support of the User Interface, UI Specifi- cations, suggestions, help, etc. This group will be unmoderated, and will be gatewayed to the Open Look mailing list, currently maintained by myself. The name comp.windows.openlook is suggested, because it makes clear that this is a windowing environment, while at the same time not limiting the discussion to any one windowing system. Although much of the discussion is expected to revolve around XView and the Xt+ toolkits (both X11 based) the Open Look Graphical User Interface is a specification, and can be implemented on other windowing systems as well. The need to create this newsgroup is obvious when one considers the number of subscribers on the Open Look Mailing list; currently in excess of 215, with at least 30 of these being other mail aliases. I estimate the total readership to be at least 500. As per Usenet guidelines, this discussion will go on for at least 21 days and no more that 31. That puts the end of the discussion sometime after September 6. If the issues are resolved by then, a vote will be held. All discussion should happen in news.groups.
