I'm trying to get an IBM RT running X to accept windows from other machines but I'm having lots of luck -- all bad. I posted before and people suggested making sure both machines' /etc/hosts file had entries for the other and the server's /etc/X0.hosts file had the name of the client machine listed. Well, that is the case but I still can't get a remote client to throw anything up on the screen! (For the sake of clarity, the client machine is a Sequent S81 that works fine with an X terminal.) The xhost command on the RT lists the Sequent as a valid client. The DISPLAY evnironment variable is correctly set to "f.cs.okstate.edu:0". Trying to start a program on the Sequent while the RT is running X produces this: X Toolkit Error: Can't Open display but that isn't helping too much. If anyone has any hints, PLEASE let me know. This is starting to cause immense frustration. The IBM manuals say nothing useful at all and the Sequent manuals don't offer much help (I assume there isn't a console for the Sequent to run X so setting up an X server is a moot point from that end.) Does anyone have an RT that listens to something else's X successfully? -- |_ /| | Robert Minich | |\'o.O' | Oklahoma State University| A fanatic is one who sticks to |=(___)= | minich@d.cs.okstate.edu | his guns -- whether they are | U | - Ackphtth | loaded or not.
