[comp.windows.x] Problems porting to a sun

A friend is porting a non-bitmapped
program to a Sun IPC 440 running
OpenWindows.

Things basically work except that the function
keys don't seem to be sending anything (at least as far as
the program is concerned).  

She has tried TERM= sun-cmd, sun, and xterm
and the various kbd_mode settings with no luck
with both the shelltool and cmdtool. 

The program works fine under sunview.

Any ideas?
