With all the talk recently about running X windows on your ibm
pc and other clones, I thought I would make sure that I understand the
issues. As far as I understand, correct me if I am wrong, current
software out there only allows you to use your pc as a X terminal.
Software such as stuff from Hummingbird, Locus, etc...
But, there is no software available TODAY that allows you
to run X Windows stand alone on a pc. You have to have a network
connection to some system running X. In other words, I can't deliver
my X windows based applications to people who just have pc's without
network connections.
I assume all the talk about DESQview concerns the idea of
being able to run X windows based applications stand alone on a pc
without a network connection. Hopefully, this will clarify the
discussion about running X windows on your pc.
