[comp.windows.x] XAllocColor problem

marbru@auto-trol.UUCP (Martin Brunecky) (10/16/90)

The XAllocColor() function description says ... In addition, XAllocColor
returns zero if there was a problem (typically lack of resources) or nonzero
if it succeeded ...

We are trying to allocate as many colors as possible, and we expect ZERO
return as the indication of a failure. However, sometimes instead
of ZERO return we get a BadAlloc XError. So far, we do not see any
consistent pattern suggesting when we should expect XError rather than
ZERO return.

Is there any documentation which would be more clear about the subject,
i.e. telling me when I should get BadAlloc XError, and when ZERO return ?
Or what the distinction means ?
