[comp.windows.x] xterm won't stop pasting

jgreen@modcomp.uucp (Joe Green) (10/28/90)

I wonder if any of you have seen this problem.

When copying text from one xterm to another, the paste in the destination
xterm seems to get stuck in a loop. It keeps pasting the text over and
over again. I normally need to send a SIGTERM (using the xterm menu, so
that is still working) in order to break out, which of course kills the
program I was pasting to.

The problem seems to be dependent on the length of the text being pasted.
Never happens with one or two lines. The longer the lines, the fewer the
lines required to make it happen. It seems to be dependent on how fast
the target program can accept input (i.e., takes fewer lines to make it
happen in "vi" than in "cat > /dev/null"). Perhaps xterm does something
wrong if it blocks on a write to the pty?

I'm going to continue looking into this myself, but I'm hoping someone
who knows xterm better than me (not too tough a requirement :-) can help
to solve this a little faster.

I'm using X11R4. The code is current through Patch #18.
The operating system is REAL/IX, a real-time UNIX based on System V.

Any help will be very much appreciated.
