I seem to have a wierd problem with 2.10.2B news: One of my users, let's call him fred, can't post news, everyone else can. The only difference between fred and everybody else is that fred is using a brain-damaged terminal to dial in to my system, and can't use any editor other than ed. He has the environment variable 'EDITOR' set to /bin/ed. Fine. So he goes into postnews, creates an article, exits ed , and postnews says "Posting article, article successfully posted, A copy has been saved in /usr/fred/author_copy", just like it says for the rest of us. However, the article has actually disappeared. It never makes it into our news system, nor is it passed downstream, nor are there any entries in /usr/lib/news/log or /usr/lib/news/errlog. I've already determined that it's not operator error, (I logged in as him, and tried it too). The only thing I can think of is that maybe my wierd hack of news to get it running on my IBM PC/AT Xenix system is at fault. Any ideas? Does anyone have a better hack of news for the IBM AT Xenix? Replies by mail, please....I'll summarize to the net.
