[net.news] A general plea

alex@warwick.UUCP (Frank N Furter) (08/03/85)

It is a little while since I last logged on to read my news. I have,
not surprisingly, got quite a lot of catching up to do. I enjoy (or used
to enjoy) reading the news; a lot of people have a lot of interesting things
to say. Yet, this particular session has proven completely frustrating and
irritating. Allow me to explain and to make a plea.

I have a measly 24 line terminal at my disposal, so long articles mean
the use of many space bars. Long articles are fine, but when the inclusions
from previous articles take up 2, and in extreme cases more, screens, then I
have spent quite some time before I can even judge if the article is likely
to be of interest. This wouldn't be so bad if the inclusions were even
necessary. In many of the cases, the previous positions replied to could
have been summarised in a sentence, or made implicit in the reply.

PLEASE
	1) Only include what is REALLY necessary
	2) Don't include whole articles; people have read them already
	3) Remember that EVERYONE, not just the person you are replying to,
must read your response. If it would be more appropriate then
	   please mail it.

					Yours in hope
