[comp.windows.x] vtwm version 3.0 problem

dms@ai.mit.edu (David M. Siegel) (11/30/90)

I'm running VTWM version 3.0 Gamma (20/11/90), which I recently
ftped from expo. I upgraded from an older version of vtwm. While
this version seems better, it has a major problem: If a window with
a geometry resource is created when you're not in the home portion
of the virtual desktop, it is placed in the home portion anyway.
The previous version would create the window relative to the desktop
that you were in.

Does anyone have a patch to this version of vtwm to fix the problem.

Also, am I running the most recent version of vtwm?

Thanks,

-Dave

the way that vtwm decides where to put a window is a heuristic, and
doesn't always work. roughly speaking it is:
if window is transient --> real screen
if window is nailed --> real screen
if pposition is set --> real screen
if uposition is set --> virtual screen
else --> ask user (--> real screen usually)
You should be able to add `notvirtualgeometries' to your .{v,}twmrc to
make all windows appear on the real screen.

yes. a 3.x will probably appear after xmas - it has various bug
fixes, and a couple of small enhancements.
