I've just recently started using X for an application I'm writing. This application usesa UIMS to control the interface and can use X or Sunview. I can specify the size and placement of a window by setting the appropriate '-geometry' paramater. Here's where I get problems. If I use 'twm' then when the windows of my application appear I get asked to place them. I actually want them to come up in predetermined places. As a cure I put 'RandomPlacement' in my .twmrc. Sure enough it placed the windows without asking me. HOWEVER, it would not put them in the correct position, the coordinates were always approx. 50,71 for the top left hand corner. Furthermore, any new windows which appeared were supposed to overlay exactly the previous windows but instead they get offset. I tried using 'olwm' and this automatic placement works perfectly and I could ask the windows to be placed whereever I wanted so my first questions are :- 1) Why won't twm allow me to place a window at coordinates < 50,71? 2) Why does it not overlay the windows exactly? Further to the previous ones, I'm trying to using olwm for the moment but I can't find an example of how to set up the menus using an initialisation file similar to say .twmrc. Question : 3) What's the equivalent of .twmrc for olwm and can anyone send me an example of how to configure it?
