[comp.windows.x] Announcing xvgr-1.07alpha

pturner@ese.ese.ogi.edu (Paul Turner) (12/07/90)

Xvgr is a data plotting tool written with the XView toolkit.

Thanks to all who have sent bug reports and letters of encouragement.

I've fixed a few problems with xvgr and the result is available via anonymous
ftp to ese3.ese.ogi.edu [129.95.20.62] in pub/grtool/xvgr-1.07alpha.tar.Z.
Be sure to set transfer type to binary. There is also a patch that will take
a clean 1.06alpha to 1.07alpha for those interested - get the file
xvgr1.06to1.07.patch.

There is a new driver for the FrameMaker .mif format, courtesy of
Alan J. Snyder (asnyder@artorg.hmc.psu.edu). This will, for our site and
many others, constitute a very valuable addition. Thank you, Alan.

The "xvgr crashes when not given a data file on the command line" bug
has been temporarily fixed. See the README for more information.
Obviously, one is not allowed to use the Notice package until after
the main window has appeared on the display. The problem has shown
up on color Suns with X11/R4 and manifests itself in a different way
on our RS6000s - X11/R3. The fix should cover all types of displays
and servers, but may require selecting a command line option for
X11/R3 servers. Let me know if there are still problems with this.

There is a new item in 'Edit points', 'Goto', that allows the cursor to be
warped to a specified (x, y) on the screen - using the locator to find
an exact location on the screen can be frustrating, this should make
it easier to get near a desired spot.

I'm spending most of my time (i.e. spare time) working on xvgr Release 2.0
so I plan to do no more than apply bandaids to xvgr as it is now available.
I am interested in coredumps and wrong answers, though, in the 1.0x versions
and I would appreciate any reports of problems of this type. Release 2.0
is already doing contour plots with data slicing provided by bilinear
interpolation - I think it will be pretty nice. The Motif version coughed
up a graph the other night.
