Hello NCR and X terminal gurus ! We have a NCR Xterminal (Towerview). After unpacking, I set up a few things and connect it to a host. It ran X clients well. However, some X clients need some specific fonts. These fonts are not included in the ROM fonts (I made a list of the fonts in the ROM). Now, I understand, that these X-terminals download their fonts during startup from the host by using the "tftp" protocol. I enabled that protocol and started the tftpd server on the host. (In fact I configured the inetd to listen to the tftp port) The following happens: I restart the X terminal after the change in the setup (tftp enabled, configuration file, etc. defined). It seems to connect well to the tftpd - the tftp statistics displays one successful connection more than last time - However, I can't login to the host (via telnet). It just hangs after output of the message: Trying... Connected! That's it. Now, I can download the fonts (I suppose) but I can't use them because I can't login :-(. The manuals which came with the X terminal are not useful for solving this problem. I have read some stuff about tftp and fonts, etc. but I couldn't find a hint to solve this problem. I tried to use different hosts for downloading the fonts and to telnet to, just to avoid using the same host for both connections (problem could be in the host, right ?). The result was the same. I think, that somebody else must have this problem and solved it, already. Please forgive me, if this topic was discussed in 1001 articles before, but I didn't follow this newsgroup (comp.sys.ncr) until now. Either I forgot an obvious thing or something must be wrong with this terminal. I will try to use another host during this week, but there is no tftpd on it, yet. Any help (except telling me to buy a different X terminal) is appreciated.
