Greetings,
Release 2.2 of XGKS is now available for anonymous FTP:
FILE: pub/xgks.tar.Z
HOST: unidata.ucar.edu [128.117.140.3]
Those of you who got a (beta) XGKS release within the past month
or two needn't bother getting the new one. Functionally, it's the
same.
Besides some enhancements and bug fixes, the major change has been a
dropping of imake(1) and Imakefile(5) support in favor of pure make(1)
and Makefile(5) support. I did this because too many clients of the
Unidata Project Center were having problems with imake(1) and
Imakefile(5)s. Please accept my apologies.
As a consequence, those of you who prefer imake(1) and Imakefile(5)s
should merge that functionality from your previous release into this
one (in which there are *no* Imakefile(5)s or template files). Be aware
that some additional files now exist; in particular, the "lib/fortran"
and "lib/xgks" directories each have a file named "externinit.c".
Here's an overview of the changes since version 2.1:
Installation procedure completely rewritten.
Support for sharable-libraries under SunOS and AIX.
GKS-to/from-X color-mapping correctly handled for INQUIRE PIXEL
functions.
Added support for "soft" clipping, curing wraparound problem in
GKS-to-X co-ordinate transformation.
More lint(1) removal.
Support for opening a GKSM file associated (somehow) with a Fortran
Logical Unit Number (LUN).
Better documentation.
As before, please feel free to contribute to the evolution of XGKS by
sending correspondence to the XGKS mailing-list or to the XGKS
co-ordinator.
To mail to the XGKS co-ordinator (to request being added to the
XGKS mailing-list, for example) send to
