I switched from X11R3 on a Vaxstation 2000 under Ultrix to X11R4 on a Decstation 5000 under Ultrix and now my .xmodmaprc file does not work in the same way as before. I want to have the funcionality of the Escape key at the Caps Lock key since this is much closer to my fingers than the default (F11). So under X11R3 I exchanged the Escape key and the Caps Lock key (I do not need this one very often) with the following .xmodmaprc in my home-directory. remove Lock = Caps_Lock keysym Escape = Caps_Lock !keycode 113 = Caps_Lock keysym Caps_Lock = Escape !keycode 176 = Escape add Lock = Caps_Lock !does not work But now with X11R4 the last line does no longer work. I do have the Escape on the Caps Lock key but I don't have a Caps Lock anymore. Running "xmodmap .xmodmaprc" I get the error message xmodmap: bad set modifier mapping. It is no problem e.g. to change the Ctrl-key and the Caps Lock-key so it looks to me it isn't allowed to add the Lock to a function key (F1-F14). I tried the same thing on a Vaxstation 2000 running X11R4 and the same problem occurs so it seems to be a problem of X11R4 not of the machine. It doesn't matter whether I try to use keysym or keycode, nothing works. Another problem is that the cursor disappears when it receives a change event. Some month ago I read another article which described this problem but I newer read an answer. Is there any? Any ideas are welcome to these questions via mail or in this newsgroup.
