[comp.windows.x] Open Look vs Open Windows

barmar@think (Barry Margolin) (12/22/90)

Many posters have corrected other posters and press releases when they
refer to products such as Open Windows as "Open Look". Its hardly
surprising that the users don't know the difference, because the vendors
apparently don't, either. Sun sent us an Open Look marketing video, but it
was apparently all about Open Windows, not Open Look. It hyped Sun's new
applications, their interactive interface builder, and Sun's networking
capabilities (only remotely Open Look/Windows related -- they mentioned it
when pointing out that the files in the File Manager can be on any host
(the really stupid thing about this was that they used it as a response to
a "just like a Mac" comment, as if Macs can't access file servers)).

By the way, I really recommend this video -- we laughed our heads off!
It's about ten minutes long. I won't say anything about the style because
you really need to be surprised by how they did it. Besides, I don't think
anyone would believe me if they didn't see it themselves.

Here, Here! This is a hilarious video! On a lark, I showed this --
without looking at it first -- as an intro to a class tutorial on using
OpenWindows. I figured it was put out by Sun -- right? It was totally
useless, because the class couldn't stop laughing!

So for some holiday cheer...check this one out!

Sorry, Sun!
