We are running Sun's Open Windows 2.0 and MIT's X11R4 servers on our
systems. We have had some problems with the different font formats
used by the two. We have some applications that install their own bdf
fonts (like x3270) that can't be used with the openwindows server and
fonts that come with openwindows that would be nice to have under
MIT's server (so that things like the calendar manager look nicer
using the MIT server).
Do programs exist to translate font files between the two formats?
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

OpenWindows 2.0 comes with a program called 'convertfont'. convertfont -x <fontname.fb> converts an OW font into a BDF font. convertfont <fontname.bdf> converts a BDF font into an OW font. Converting 2 byte per character fonts should be done with the -M command line flag set. After a conversion, you have to do a 'bldfamily' to reconstruct the server font list in that directory. Potential "gotcha": be careful about doing multiple conversions of the same font in the same directory without setting the font name, and possible the output filename. 'convertfont' and 'bldfamily' should be located in the OW bin directory. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- mleisher@nmsu.edu "I laughed.
