At the EUUG (European UNIX* User Group) Meeting, last week in Copenhagen a vote was taken by the Internationalisation Standards Group, in favour of creating the newsgroup net.internat. Its purpose will be to serve as a forum for discussions amongst the various internationalisation groups who are working towards agreement on ways of supporting Multi-Lingual UNIX. There was strong desire for cooperation at the international level on these issues and a newsgroup seems the ideal way to publicise the work of the groups and to permit the widest possible audience to participate. Comments, both FOR and against this proposal are invited. As a matter of interest, the vote at Copenhagen was 40 (For), 0 (Against). -- ++ Jim R Oldroyd ++ jr@inset.UUCP ++ ..!mcvax!ukc!inset!jr

Perhaps it should be eur.internat. In that case, the anti-new group guardians wouldn't have to approve it. :-) Joel West CACI, Inc. - Federal (c/o UC San Diego) {ucbvax,decvax,ihnp4}!sdcsvax!jww jww@SDCSVAX.ARPA

net.internat clearly falls under the mod.std cover. I suggest mod.std.int-unix. -- From the TARDIS of Mark Callow msc@saber.UUCP, sun!saber!msc@decwrl.ARPA ...{decwrl,ucbvax}!sun!saber!msc, ...{amdcad,ihnp4}!saber!msc

When I saw net.internat I misread it as net.internet, and wondered whether it was about internetworking in general, or the ARPA Internet or the XEROX Internet in particular. Then I saw the actual spelling, and wondered if this were net.politics.world revived. I think Mark Callow is right that it belongs under mod.std, but mod.std.int-unix is ugly. How about mod.std.unix.int, or it could even be incorporated into mod.std.unix, for that matter. I know I, as moderator of mod.std.unix, would publish most of the things I've seen posted elsewhere about the internationalization of UNIX. -- John Quarterman, UUCP: {ihnp4,seismo,harvard,gatech}!ut-sally!jsq ARPA Internet and CSNET: jsq@sally.UTEXAS.EDU, formerly jsq@ut-sally.ARPA
