[comp.windows.x] status of X Windows ANSI ratification

rws@expo.lcs.mit.EDU (Bob Scheifler) (01/21/91)

can anyone please update me on the status of the X window system server
protocol ratification process at ANSI? (ANSI working draft standard
    X3H3.6/88-28R2).

The ANSI public review period closed in early December. Some comments
were received. The working group (X3H3.6) has not met since then to
process the comments. I believe it is planning to meet in February.
I would say it is unknown how long it will take the group to process
the comments and get responses ratified up through the chain. A proposed
mapping onto OSI is currently under ballot within X3H3.6.

Also any related information on the (ANSI) status
(and Sun implementation progress) on the PEX extension would be appreciated

No other part of X, including PEX, is currently being considered by X3H3 (or
any other approved body) for ANSI standardization. Although there has been
discussion of possible direct balloting of Xlib and Xt within the IEEE, there
is nothing in progress at the present time. The PEX sample implementation
will be included in X11R5 from MIT.
