Anyone know the structure of a Sun raster file??

I know you have Sun's at Rice.  Look at /usr/include/rasterfile.h.

even better would be to do a "man 5 rasterfile" and get the whole
story:

RASTERFILE(5)             FILE FORMATS              RASTERFILE(5)

NAME
     rasterfile - Sun's file format for raster images

... etc.
