[net.news] changing the interface

gds@mit-eddie.UUCP (Greg Skinner) (10/08/85)

In B news, there is no need for software rewrite so that anyone can use
their own interface, because you are free to do that now. Because the
articles are ascii text and in separate files, you can devise your own
schemes to select articles. You can even write your own code to expand
digests. Any interface is possible, from a sophisticated keyword-based
news scheme to cat(1). This is why multiple news-reading programs
already exist (vnews, rn, readnews, k news).

With notes, you are more restricted, because the articles are all in one
file.
