			CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

	Second Eurographics Workshop on Object Oriented Graphics

		Texel, The Netherlands, 5-7 June 1991

Aims and Scope:
===============
Object Oriented Methods are particularly applicable to Computer Graphics
in its broadest sense -- in human computer interaction, in image
synthesis, in dynamic graphics and in CAD. Research in computer
graphics has also lead to a critique of object oriented theory. The
workshop is part of a continuing series allowing researchers to pool
ideas and to address common problems. The previous workshop identified
a number of fundamental issues for resolution. These included:

 + Constraints for graphics systems and their inclusion in the object
   oriented paradigm.
 + Relationships between declarative and object oriented approaches to
   graphics.
 + The integration of dataflow methods and `objectified' messages.
 + Usefulness of inheritance hierarchies. The use of prototypes and
   delegation.
 + Abstractions for modelling complex objects (e.g., part hierarchies).
 + What multiple views of objects are, and how they may be implemented.
 + The need for object oriented graphics standards (new API) and
   systems.
 + Overcoming the shortcomings of existing object oriented environments.

Papers are solicited which address these or other fundamental issues
arising from the use of object oriented methods in computer graphics.
The discussions could lead to extensions to the papers or to the
formulation of research programmes to address remaining unresolved
problems.

Full Papers:
============
Please submit 4 copies of a full paper (15-25 single sided pages, <
10000 words, 200 word abstract) for review by the programme committee.
Papers accepted for the workshop will be reproduced in the proceedings.
Invitations to submit revised versions for a book (in the Eurographic-
Seminars Series of Springer) will depend on the quality of the
contributions.

Position Papers:
================
Taking part is also possible if you submit a brief position paper (1-2
pages) stating your view on some relevant issues. Invitations will be
sent at least a month before the workshop. Early position papers have
priority and will be printed in the (pre-)proceedings.

Workshop Format:
================
The workshop is limited to about 60 participants. Full papers will be
presented to the plenum, while specialized groups will be formed for
discussion sessions.

Schedule:
=========
31 January 1991 Deadline for full paper.
12 April 1991 Deadline for position paper to be included with
		   preprints.
		   Notification of outcome of review of full papers.
4 May 1991 Latest date for position papers for admission to
		   workshop.
5-7 June 1991	   WORKSHOP
9 August 1991 Deadline for revised final paper for book.

Venue and Fee:
==============
The workshop will be held in De Koog, on the island Texel, The
Netherlands. Transport from Amsterdam will be arranged. The fee
will be about HFL 850, including accommodation and meals. Students
without access to other funds could be subsidized.

Organization:
=============
The workshop is organized by the CWI (Nationally Funded Dutch Institute for
Research in Mathematics and Computer Science) and promoted by Eurographics.
It is supported by a grant from the NWO (Netherlands Organization for
Scientific Research) and SERC (Software Engineering Research Centre). It is
chaired by Edwin Blake (CWI) and Chris Laffra (SERC).
