[comp.windows.x] capture the screen

coop@panther.cerc.wvu.wvnet.edu (Cooperate) (01/18/91)

Hi,

Is there some program like xwd, but with the capability to
capture a portion of the screen? Thanks for your help.

xgrabsc found in comp.source.x allows you to rubberband an area from
the screen. It also does color to monochrome conversion when dumping
to a ps image. Supports basic xwd stuff as well.

(I would of e-mailed however, thats broken)

The program asnap, in asnap.tar.Z on expo.lcs.mit.edu:~ftp/contrib,
will also snap part of the screen, storing the output in either
xwd or Andrew raster format. It supports color to monochrome
conversion when snapping to the Andrew raster format. The Andrew
raster tool (in contrib/toolkits/andrew/ on the R4 tape) supports
editing (touchup, cropping, etc.) and Postscript printing of the
resultant raster.

asnap is derived from the first version of xsnap. xsnap (xsnap.tar.Z on
expo.lcs.mit.edu:~ftp/contrib), is asnap with bugs corrected (wrt grabs and
region specifications), so use xsnap instead of asnap.
