Three advises:

*   xdvi from charon.mit.edu (18.70.0.224):
	- real WYSIWYG since it uses the same fonts
	  which will be sent to the printer
	- reasonable speed

*   dvips from labrea.stanford.edu (36.8.0.47).
	- produces clean and compact PostScript
	- virtual font support
	- all other useful options...

*   ghostscript from research.att.com (192.20.225.2).
	- fast
	- handles almost anything

They are by far the best you can get.
