[comp.windows.x] Cmdtool & xdm on xterminals

bmc@mayo.EDU (Bruce Cameron) (02/07/91)

I have several Sun 3/50's running as xterminals (thanks to Xkernel & its author), using xdm as the login prompter. The problem is that when starting a cmdtool (OpenWindows v. 2) the cmdtool opens correctly, but does not return a prompt, when started from ..xsession. However, xterms work correctly as do cmdtools started from xterms. Cmdtools started from olwm's menu do not work correctly. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going wrong here?

Thanks,

All I can suggest is that it likely has something to do with cmdtool
having or not having a control terminal, or perhaps having or not
having something open on stdin/stdout/stderr.

My thanks go out to all who helped out on this problem. The solution was to use /usr/etc/setsid before the cmdtool (or shelltool).
