[comp.windows.x] X windows installation and future development

Object : X windows instalation and future developments

1. Installation :
I am presently working on a Silicon Graphics Personal Iris computer.
I got the first tape of X window and was able to compile the libraries,
but I encountered some difficulties with the make install. It seems
there should be a sgiinst.sh file in the util/scripts directory, but this
file is not there. I tried to use the file install.sh instead without
success. What I would like to know is :
How to make the make install work.
If not possible, what files should be copied and where should
they be copied in order to develop with X windows.

Note : I already have the server, which came with the computer.

2. Future developments :
I would like to know if X windows will support 3d graphics in the
future, and have an idea of how the programmer will access these 3d
capabilities.

In a few months, Silicon Graphics will use X windows for its window
manager. Does anyone know how they plan to support 3d graphics
in conjunction with X windows ??

Right now, I plan to use X windows in one window, to do the interaction,
and have a NeWS window to handle the 3d graphics. Is there anyone who
tried something like this, or who can give me hints on how to do this
and what difficulties I will encounter.

Any answer would be greatly appreciated.

                     Thank You,
